Living in the Present — The Venus Person

Enjoyment, authenticity, natural presence in a crowd, charging in first when something happens and covering the retreat when things go wrong, stubbornness, slowness, focus — these are the qualities of the Venus person (a person whose Stellar Regent is Venus). And as many as these qualities are, they all unfold from a single core.

Reduction.

When people reduce or consume their own life force, they feel pleasure. Relaxing means dissolving the gathered tension in the muscles. Playing freely consumes the spirit. Lovemaking is a form of consumption. Even the full joy of falling in love is a way of releasing the tightness of survival pressure. All of this is reduction.

Reduction is also a form of beauty. We find beautiful those whose features are defined and sculpted — a beauty that often comes from the leanness of the face. The beauty of great scale and abundance is also a beauty born from cutting away the complicated and letting something emerge. Both are reduction.

Authenticity, then, is the inner and outer becoming one: through reduction — by cutting away everything one dislikes — a person arrives at purity, and purity generates beauty. This beauty gives one a striking presence in a crowd, even without conforming to the aesthetic standards of the moment.

Metal is beauty.

And this beauty is also a human beauty — what is called 義: righteousness, loyalty, the code of brotherhood. 義 means: when something happens, I charge in first; when things go wrong, I cover the retreat. That is 義 — the spirit of giving first. But the Venus person's giving is not selfless: they give while watching to see whether you respond.

The Venus person needs reciprocation. "I've been this good to you — you have to give something back." Love that resonates with Venus must involve a return; otherwise it is no longer love, but something else.

This is because the Venus person's purity comes from cutting away what they dislike, what they consider unimportant — and the criterion for what gets cut is testing. If you don't pass, you are eliminated. That is the Venus person's decisiveness: they build a clear boundary for themselves. It is also a form of focus — focused on what matters to them.

So the Venus person is the most present-focused of all. They have cut away the future and cut away the past; there is only now. If right now you don't measure up, there is no future between you — and even the past becomes blurry.

This is why some Venus people have wonderful friendships and relationships to start with, but find arguments arising later: the Venus person is simply too decisive. Some cut so completely — skin and flesh together, cleanly severed: I don't want this — that they seem, to others, almost heartless.

But it is precisely this decisiveness that makes spending time with the Venus person so enjoyable. When you're feeling bad and you go to the Jupiter person, they will lecture you on principles and talk you through the future to lift your spirits.

The Venus person won't. They'll say: "Come on, I'll take you somewhere fun." That is how present-focused Venus is.

The Venus person is slow and focused. They deeply understand the beauty of slow, careful attention: delicately sculpting a thing, without rush or impatience — sculpting their life, their work, their love, their soul. This kind of beauty is awe-inspiring.

And so Metal governs slowness.

Because slow brings relaxation. Because relaxed means free to laugh and talk. Because fully relaxed — able to perceive the changes in things.

Metal generates Water.

Because relaxed — able to perceive change — information is born, and freely transmitted.

These are the qualities of the Venus person. The energy that nourishes Venus comes from the Saturn person — Earth.
