Adversity Palace

The Adversity Palace (疾厄宮) governs innate negative charge and the drive to overcome it — the fears, anxieties, and control impulses a person is born carrying, and the appetite for risk and high-stakes, small-to-large gain that grows from confronting them. It sits at the 申 hour and covers speculative and future-facing wealth: investment, markets, others' money, dowry and shared or divided assets, and the wealth that comes through risk rather than accumulation.

Because it channels the impulse to use small means against large odds to master fear, it also signifies ambition, power, and the desire to go beyond the status quo. In the friction framework, speculative wealth (偏財) here is precisely a sense of timing for when capital surges — a trained sensitivity to risk, not luck.

It stands opposite the Wealth Palace: dynamic, volatile wealth against static savings; the innate dimension of health and fear against settled material security.
