Imprinting Star

首見星

The first celestial body encountered scanning outward from the Life Palace — the formative imprint that shapes a person's foundational character.

The Imprinting Star (首見星) is the first planet encountered when reading a natal chart outward from the Life Palace (命宮) — and where the Life Palace holds no planet, continuing in sequence (the Marriage Palace and onward) until the first planet is reached.

Beyond this technical derivation, the Imprinting Star carries a deeper meaning. It represents the first formative figure in a person's life: the earliest person they encounter, or the earliest person imprinted in their memory. An individual's foundational character forms through their interaction with this primary imprint — much as an early-life encounter leaves a lasting behavioral mark (the principle of *imprinting* in ethology).

The Imprinting Star is read in relationship to the Stellar Regent (命元星), the individual's own governing star. Where the Stellar Regent is the self, the Imprinting Star is the formative *other*. The generative or controlling relationship between the two establishes the chart's fundamental pattern (格) — whether the earliest formative encounter is experienced as grace, as adversity, or as expressive output.
